"A Thousand Splendid Suns”, based on a novel by Khaled Hosseini, author of 2003’s bestseller “The Kite Runner,” is a clear-eyed illumination of that most accessible of ties, a mother’s bond with her endangered child.
Set in Afghanistan from the 1960`s to the 1990`s, spanning from Soviet occupation to the Taliban control, following the lives of two women in their marriages and in their war-torn country. Expecting domestic abuse, graphic war descriptions and oppression of Afghan women you will get into affecting story of love, unpretentious courage, among the ruins of war torn country.
Playwright Ursula Rani Sarma, adapting the Afghan-born novelist’s 2007 book, unfolds Laila’s and Miriam’s life - two wife’s of one ferocious man in spare, stark scenes almost biblical dimensions.
